TORONTO - Steve Nash is going to have his own Vancouver Olympic moment.

The two-time NBA MVP from Victoria has accepted an invitation to carry the Olympic torch during its cross-country trip en route to the 2010 Games in Vancouver and Whistler.

The Phoenix Suns point guard said he wasn't positive where his leg would take place.

The torch relay begins its trek across the country in Victoria on Oct. 30, and will travel 45,000 kilometres around Canada.

The relay will make stops in every province and territory during its 106-day journey leading up to the lighting of the cauldron at BC Place. The Olympics will be held from Feb. 12 to 28 in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C., followed by the Paralympics from March 12 to 21.

Calgary golfer Stephen Ames also recently confirmed he was running a leg of the relay.

Steve Nash is amazing - a stellar athlete and an incredibly positive role model who is doing amazing things for kids on both sides of the border. As a Canadian who admires his work both on an off the court, it would be an honour to see him run with the torch.

Hey Nash, Forget all of these haters... I'm running with the torch between Peterborough and Oshawa and would be thrilled to pass the flame to ya bro!!! Thanks for all of your past services to Canadian Basketball.

He has participated for Canada on an international level, in fact when the basketball team was attempting to qualify for the 2004 Olympics, Nash paid for the flights of all his teammates between games as they would've had to ride the bus. He was entitled to have basketball Canada pay for his flights because he was in the NBA.

I bet I feel the same way as any other Canadian basketball fan right now. How can Steve Nash carry a torch when the man does not even play for his own country when it comes too international sports? It's great that Steve Nash is representing Canada in the NBA but how about playing for your country first.

Maybe Nash is trying to redeem his no-show for Canada by taking part in the torch relay? I guess he deserves the chance to put things right...

I know he's a Canadian sports Icon but I have a problem with him carrying the torch for the Olympics in Canada when he won't even represent his country in the summer olympics. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. Stephen Ames, even though he wasn't even born here, is understandable as he always jumps at the chance to represent Canada.
