HELSINKI - Finland's Tanja Poutiainen said Thursday a back injury might prevent her from competing in the women's World Cup giant slalom in Aspen this weekend.
"I plan to attend free skiing practice on the slope on Friday and the final decision on participating ... I will make on Saturday," Poutiainen said in a statement published on Finnish alpine skiing association's website.
The 29-year-old, who placed first in her last giant slalom race, hurt her back on November 20 while training but plans to get a cortisone injection and wants to see how it feels to ski before making a decision.
Poutiainen has won two bronze medals in the World Ski Championships in February and a silver Olympic medal in giant slalom in 2006.
Italy's Giuliano Razzoli takes the gold medal in the men's slalom.
Mathieu Giroux, Lucas Makowsky and Denny Morrison win a tight race with the US.
