Bobsleigh pilot Pierre Lueders and CFL running back Jesse Lumsden earned a gold medal at the European Cup two-man bobsleigh event in Koenigssee, Germany.

Lueders, who finished fourth at the Lake Placid World Cup last weekend with brakeman David Bissett, made use of the European development circuit to try things out with his newest brakeman. Lueders won the two-man national-championship race with Lumsden last winter.

At the second-tier event on Thursday, German athletes Benjamin Schmid and Marko Huebenbecker finished in 1:39.94 to earn silver on their home track, while Russians Alexsandr Zubkov and Alexey Voevoda, who finished fourth at the 2009 bobsleigh world cup last season, finished 0.66 seconds back of the Canadians to take the bronze.

Lueders is scheduled to compete in the two-man World Cup race on December 5 in Cesana, Italy.
