Jones defeated on home ice

Kelly Scott defeated Jennifer Jones in the final of the Manitoba Lotteries Women's Curling Classic, Monday.

In a back-and-forth match on Jones' home ice, Scott's rink of Jeanna Schraeder, Sasha Carter and Jacquie Armstrong came out on top with a final score of 5-4.

Jones' rink of Cathy Overton-Clapham, Jill Officer and Dawn Askin was the tournament favourite after the team won its first two competitions of the year.

Jones and Scott could face off again at the 2009 Roar of the Rings in December. Jones has already been named to the Olympic qualifier tournament roster while Scott has qualified for the Pre-Trials event to be held next month.

In an all-Manitoba final at the men's Meyers Norris Penny Prairie Classic, also held in Manitoba on Monday, Kerry Burtnyk of Winnipeg faced off against Jason Gunnlaugson of Beausejour.

With a final score of 4-2, Burtnyk came out ahead to to win the Meyers Norris title for the first time.

Curling heavyweight Jeff Stoughton was defeated in the quarterfinal while the three-time tournament champion, Glenn Howard, sat out to compete at the Grey Power World Cup in Mississauga, Ont.

At the Kamloops Crown of Curling in B.C., Colleen Hannah of Maple Ridge, B.C., won with a score of 6-5 over Edmonton's Faye White.
