Diving features eight events at the London 2012 Games – two individual events for both men and women as well as two sycnhro events for both men and women:

Individual Events                 Synchronized Events

3m Springboard                      Synchronized 3m Springboard
10m Platform                          Synchronized 10m Platform

All events are to be held at the Aquatics Centre in the Olympic Park.

London 2012 Storylines:
All eyes will be on Great Britain's Tom Daley who in 2009 became the world's youngest ever men's World Champion in the 10m platform event at the age of 15. His father, Rob, who was his greatest supporter, lost his five year battle with cancer on May 27, 2011 (14 months to the day to the London 2012 Opening Ceremony).

The Chinese divers are once again expected to dominate the competition. Over the last seven Olympic Games, China has won 41 percent of all diving medals awarded.  In Beijing 2008, China won seven of the eight diving gold medals.

Canada's Outlook:
The all-time total of Olympic diving medals won by Canada is nine, and the London 2012 team is positioned to add to this count, with five of the nine medals attributed to veterans Émilie Heymans (two silver and one bronze) and Alexandre Despatie (two silver), who both return for their fourth Games. The team is also bolstered by young talent such as Jennifer Abel, Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion.

Despatie, who was forced to withdraw from the 2011 World Championships due to tendinitis in his left knee, has won two straight Olympic silver medals in the 3m springboard. He continues to be a contender in this event, winning bronze at the 2009 World Championships, following silver and gold in 2007 and 2005, respectively.  He also won gold in the 3m springboard at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.  He is also a contender in the synchronized 3m springboard event with teammate Reuben Ross.

Heymans will once again lead the women's team.  She is looking to add to her medal haul of two silvers and one bronze from her three previous Olympic appearances.  No female diver has ever won medals in four consecutive Olympic Games. One opponent standing in her way is Abel, who competed in Beijing 2008 as a 16-year-old, and is now ready to make a move for the podium.  She teamed with Heymans to win gold in the synchronized 3m springboard at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and bronze in the event at the 2010 World Cup.  Both women have earned quota positions for Canada at London 2012 in the 3m springboard and the synchro 3m springboard events.

The women's 10m platform events are where the team of Benfeito and Filion excel.  Together, they are one of the world's best synchro tandems and were able to earn dual Olympic berths by finishing seventh and eighth respectively at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai.
