Skate Canada named Olympic bronze medallist Jeffrey Buttle as athlete ambassador for the Canadian figure skating championships, Wednesday.
Buttle, a three-time Canadian champion, 2008 world champion and Olympic bronze medallist at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, will also skate in the exhibition gala to close out the competition on January 17.
"Since Jeff's retirement he has continued to say involved with the sport and we could not be happier that he will be at this event to show support for our skaters," said William Thompson, Skate Canada CEO, in a release.
"As the last Canadian figure skater to win a medal at the Olympics, Jeff will be able to share his journey with the athletes and fans, so close before Vancouver."
Italy's Giuliano Razzoli takes the gold medal in the men's slalom.
Mathieu Giroux, Lucas Makowsky and Denny Morrison win a tight race with the US.
