Czechs consider 60 players for Olympic hockey team

Dominik Hasek and Jaromir Jagr headline the list of 60 players under consideration for the Czech Republic's 2010 Olympic men's hockey team.

Hasek, who came out of retirement this month, is one of eight goaltenders who will compete for a spot on the team. Florida Panthers netminder Tomas Vokoun, who beat Russia in the bronze medal game in 2006, is likely the leading candidate for the starting role.

The 44-year-old Hasek, who retired from the Detroit Red Wins in 2008, is making a comeback with Pardubice in the Czech Extraliga this year. In the season opening game, he stopped 33 of 34 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss.

Jagr, who spent last season playing in the Russian Kontinental Hockey League, is joined on the 60-man roster by other forwards like New Jersey Devil Patrick Elias, Martin Havlat of the Minnesota Wild, Ales Hemsky of the Edmonton Oilers, free agent Petr Sykora, and Jiri Hudler, who recently left the Red Wings to play in Russia.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle is among 19 players under consideration on defense. Other NHLers in the running include Roman Hamrlik, Jaroslav Spacek, Filip Kuba, Pavel Kubina, Michal Rozsival and Marek Zidlicky.

Nineteen players from the 24 man team which won bronze at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin have been invited back to try out for the 2010 roster.

Missing this time around are forwards Robert Lang and David Vyborny, defenseman Marek Malik and goaltenders Milan Hnilicka - who was Vokoun's backup in Turin - and Dusan Salficky.

Teams are expected to submit their final roster at the end of December.
