The Carolina Hurricanes have placed goaltender Cam Ward on the long-term injured list, throwing up another road block in his attempt to make the Canadian men's Olympic hockey team.
Ward has been sidelined for almost two weeks since his left leg was cut by the skate of Rick Nash during a game against the Blue Jackets on November 7.
The move to the long-term injured reserve list means Ward will be out of the lineup a minimum of 24 days or 10 games.
Ward says he has not given up hope on being named to the Olympic team.
In 15 games this season, he had a 2-9-3 record with a 2.97 goals against average and an .899 save percentage.
Carolina have targeted a December 5th return for Ward against the Vancouver Canucks.
Another potential Olympian, Eric Staal, was also placed on injured reserve with an "upper body injury". Staal hasn't played since November 1 and has missed the last seven games. He has just three goals and two assists in 13 games this season.
Italy's Giuliano Razzoli takes the gold medal in the men's slalom.
Mathieu Giroux, Lucas Makowsky and Denny Morrison win a tight race with the US.
