The roster is set: Meet Team Canada

Scott Niedermayer will captain Team Canada at the 2010 Olympic Games, with Sidney Crosby, Jarome Iginla and Chris Pronger to serve as alternates.

The four players were among 23 named to Team Canada on Wednesday at an unveiling in Saskatoon, Sask.

Joining Niedermayer and Pronger on the blueline for Canada are Dan Boyle, Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, Shea Weber and Brent Seabrook.

Rounding out Canada's forwards are Patrice Bergeron, Ryan Getzlaf, Dany Heatley, Patrick Marleau, Brenden Morrow, Rick Nash, Corey Perry, Mike Richards, Eric Staal, Joe Thornton and Jonathan Toews.

Martin Brodeur, Marc-Andre Fleury and Roberto Luongo will be between the pipes for Canada.

Only seven players named Wednesday were part of Canada's seventh place finish at the 2006 Olympics in Turin.

Steve Yzerman and co. have made their decisions - though injured players can be replaced before Canada's first game on Feb. 16 - but what could generate even more discussion is what players aren't on that list.

Notable forwards left out of the mix include Jeff Carter (Flyers), Shane Doan (Phoenix Coyotes), Ryan Smyth (LA Kings), Vincent Lecavalier (Tampa Bay Lightning), Martin St. Louis (Tampa Bay Lightning), Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Mike Fisher (Ottawa Senators).

Of the goalies invited to Team Canada's Olympic orientation camp in August, Cam Ward (Carolina Hurricanes) and Steve Mason (Columbus Blue Jackets) didn't make the cut.

Notable blueliners not named to the team include Mike Green of the Washington Capitals, the leading point-getting defenceman in the NHL; and Calgary Flames Dion Phaneuf, Robyn Regehr and Jay Bouwmeester.

Team Canada's brass met Tuesday until midnight, and the most discussed topic was the seventh defenceman, according to TSN analyst Pierre McGuire. The two players they were talking about: Doughty and Bouwmeester.

Here's how the team breaks down:

Why would anyone submit comments that do not get posted? Intentions are no less powerful because they are not read. But submitting a coment I am identifying a strength and setting an intention. As with a butterfly's wings changing weather in a dramatic, so to can the private intentions of one be added to the greater intentions of the many. May we bless this game, may we bless both the teams and may we bless both our countries. "The intention is set for TEAM CANADA to take the GOLD metal today."

It is interesting that both GM’s, Yzerman and Burke have the identical birth energy. Other members of TEAM CANADA with the same birth energy are Boyle, Weber and Seabrook with HM west energies, or Keith, Pronger and Doughty with ME west energies. These energies should be paired up with Scott as the lone east group energy paired with Drew. Toews, Thornton and Marleau should be together as HW east group with a mix of Crosby SW east. Keeping a mix of Richards, Perry, Getzlaf and Bergeron together supported by their HM west group energies. Staal, Nash and Morrow are SM west energies. Heatley and Iginla would pair up with the extra HM west group player. The US team has a more even east, west split and it is harder to get the matching energies out of their lines. Miller will be very protective of his net but a temping puck just out of his reach on either side of the net may draw him out of position and force an error. Scott needs to enhance his personal energy with red on his stick. A red marker to draw a triangle. Each person with reason to be in the change room should contribute a small red triangle to the stick, with a blessing. Bless this stick and all our efforts. The announcer should likewise offer a blessing just before announcing the teams. He should bless this game, bless both these teams, and bless both these countries. We should then all see a great game with a great outcome for CANADA. Then Scott should give me the stick.

As with TEAM CANADA, the Slovakia team has the almost identical birth energy assessment, with 2/3 west group to 1/3 east group, both in the net and over all. Except for Scott, all the defence, both teams are west group. So the difference will be in the player combinations, W and E grouping, of the forward lines. The assessment is very balanced potentially, and the forward lines will make the difference. Scott should have some red on his stick and make his big play from the red line area. Both teams have a dominant energy feature and our energy feature will feed off their energy. The enegy of Budaj as their tender will for sure challange our efforts. Stana has the energy that will be depleted by the TEAM CANADA energies. It should be a surprizingly close game. GO TEAM CANADA.

As was mentioned before, but edited, there is one other team with a similar birth energy profile as the Canadian team. That is the Russian team. It will be the team that best honours their birth energies that will reasonate as a single unit, and be able to focus without periferal distractions on the win. I had expected this would be the match up for the GOLD. You can be sure that the top atheletes from overseas, know and honour their birth energies.

Chris Pronger was okay for the old clutch and grab hockey but he is too slow and he is going to be a liability to Team Canada.

I think we have a great team for the Olympics, though there's only one player I would have liked to see chosen, and that's Jordan Staal. I know he's not a superstar like the rest of them, but he's one of the best, if not the best, penalty killers in the league. And I agree with not picking Mike Green, ya he leads Defecemen in points, but like others said, he's a liability on the blue line.

Hockey is after all a west group thinking game. Football is after all an east group thinking game. See the difference? Ya, I know, it is obvious, is it not.
