A multi-media stage production telling Rick Hansen's uplifting "Man in Motion" story is paramount among the acts announced for the 2010 Cultural Olympiad.

The Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) announced the final 35 projects -- including dancers, musicians, playwrights, new media and visual artists - that will be will part of Olympic gala. It will run from January 22, 2010 throughout the Olympics and Paralympics to March 21, 2010 and will include more than 600 ticketed and free performances and exhibitions in 50 venues in Vancouver and the Sea to Sky corridor.

Hailing from Canada as well as Russia, China, France, Taiwan and Japan, it's an eclectic list of projects, from cutting-edge contemporary works to ancient traditional ones.

Ballet fans will be able to see both the National Ballet of Canada and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet perform on the same stage as part of an Olympic gala.

There will be events like Best Before, which uses 200 wireless joysticks and a giant screen to create a unique, virtual city.

"For the last three years, our team has scoured stages, concert halls and galleries here at home and internationally for the most exciting established and emerging artists to showcase here in 2010," explained Burke Taylor, VANOC's vice-president, culture and celebrations.

The first 20 projects for the Olympiad were announced earlier this spring.
