Canada's Olympic athletes will be wearing iconic Canadian items to the 2010 Vancouver games including parkas, toques, knitted sweaters and buffalo plaid.
Even the guys are impressed.
"I am a bit of an eye catch kind of guy, so anything that's bold is good," said long track speed skater Brock Miron.
The athletes will wear the items, designed by Hudson's Bay Company, on the podium and at the Closing Ceremony, as well as around the Olympic Villages in Vancouver and Whistler.
"HBC sponsors the speed skating team as well and we for the past few years have been getting outfit clothing from them.
"That's definitely the one thing I've noticed since we've switched over to HBC is the quality."
Snowboard cross competitor Robert Fagan said he could imagine pairing some of the new attire with items he already has.
"I definitely agree, snowboarders try to keep up with their fashion sense. So, [these items] might not necessarily work if you wear every piece together...but I believe a lot of pieces do work, mixing your own style stuff with a couple of the pieces, for sure," Fagan said.
"It's going to look good. With all the 80s styles going on with snowboarding the colours would for sure work."
The design of the apparel was inspired by Canadian stories to create a look and feel that celebrates the determination, attitude and successes of great Canadians, such as the Crazy Canucks, Rick Hansen, Manon Rhéaume and Terry Fox, said Suzanne Timmins, fashion director, Hudson's Bay Company.
"It's original, functional and fun."
The items are made up with a traditional palette of red and vintage white, strengthened by black and combined with an athletic heather grey.
Ski cross athlete Kelsey Serwa is impressed by the quality, texture and classic style of the apparel.
"[The items are] stylish, nothing over the top," Serwa said.
"I got a little sneak peak of the stuff downstairs and there are some nice fashionable knits and stuff.
"The sweaters are nice and everything is really nice quality, soft and cozy."
"If you can impress guys you're doing something right," Serwa joked.
Graphics used in the collection are those of Canadian graphic designers from the modernist era in the 60's and 70's inspired the Hudson's Bay Company design team to revisit and re-ignite a classic clean design aesthetic to the collection.
The items, available for sale at both The Bay and Zellers was unveiled Thursday in Vancouver and modelled by Olympians and Olympic hopefuls, including Steve Yzerman, Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic gold medallist and Executive Director for the Canadian Olympic men's 2010 ice hockey team, Nathalie Lambert, three-time Olympic short track speed skating medallist and Canada's Chef de Mission for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Brittany Schussler, Canadian National Speed Skating Team, and Mike Janyk, Canadian National Alpine Ski Team.
Each athlete will each receive 28 items as part of their 2010 uniform.
