The storytellers who will be delivering coverage of the Olympic Games to Canadians will also be delivering the Olympic Flame to communities across the country, as RBC today named 27 broadcasters from Canada's Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium as torchbearers on the RBC Olympic Torch Relay team.
"RBC is proud to bring the Olympic Torch Relay to more than a thousand communities, connecting all Canadians to Vancouver 2010," said Jim Little, Chief Brand and Communications Officer, RBC.
"Adding some of Canada's finest storytellers to our team of torchbearers will help prove that a single flame can warm the hearts of an entire nation."
The list of torchbearers will include a who's who of Canadian broadcasters and journalists from CTV, TSN, RDS, Discovery Channel and The Globe and Mail, including TSN personalities Jennifer Hedger, James Duthie, Michael Landsberg and Dave Randorf, RDS's Denis Casavant and Chantal Machabée, Globe and Mail and CTVOlympics.ca columnist Stephen Brunt, and CTV/TSN's Brian Williams, who has covered the Olympic Games since 1976.
"I've been involved in 12 Olympic Games, but have never carried the torch. The torch means so much to the people of Canada and it is a true honour for me to be running in the city in which I was born," said Williams, Host of Olympic Prime Time on CTV, who will be running in Winnipeg.
"It is a privilege for our Olympic Games broadcast team to carry the torch in various communities across Canada on behalf of RBC and to share the Olympic Games spirit and passion with neighbourhoods throughout the country," said Keith Pelley, President, Canada's Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium.
"RBC has been a committed partner of the Olympic movement and amateur sports for more than 60 years, and its dedication and efforts are to be admired."
