When an Olympic speed skater and an NHL star have children, you'd expect them to be athletic. But for one family, it's gone farther than that.

He's an NHL and Olympic hockey star she's a two-time Olympic speed skater. Randy and Kathy Gregg met at the 1980 Olympics. All four of their children are athletes. Three are speed skaters, and two of them are racing for gold in Vancouver this February.

"We talk about it and obviously the kids realized how positive an experience we both had at it, probably they wanted to achieve that, but if you ask them, I don't think they felt pressure that they needed to do that themselves," said Kathy Gregg.

But they did it anyway. Jessica Gregg races short track speed skating and in January, her brother Jamie Gregg made the long track team.

"I think it will be a very cool experience. I'm really looking forward to watching her (Jessica) race, and walking into the opening ceremonies with her (Jessica) will be a surreal experience I think," said Jamie Gregg.

For Jamie, it's a pretty remarkable rise to the top. The previous Olympics he wasn't a competitive speed skater. In fact, he went to Mexico and didn't even watch the games.

"And so that's really how far I've come, from partying it up at spring break, to training all the time and going to the Olympics," said Jamie Gregg.

Kathy Gregg coached all of her children in speed skating and isn't surprised by their success.

"When I started coaching them it's always been about just having a good time and I think if someone is a really good athlete they are going to succeed at whatever sport they choose," remarked Kathy Gregg.

This marks the first time children of Canadian Olympians are competing for Olympic medals, but it's likely not the last time: there's another Gregg in the wings. Sarah Gregg is on track to skate in the 2014 Olympics to be held in Russia

The entire Gregg family will be in Vancouver this February. The ones who are not competing will be in the stands thanks to the Petro-Canada Canadian Athlete Family Program which arranges tickets and accommodation for the families of Canadian Olympians.
