Ronny Ackermann - Germany

Ronny Ackerman is a veteran of nordic combined, and his experience has helped Ackermann amass a significant medal count over the last ten years of competition.
Ackerman is extremely successful in sprint and also benefits by being part of a strong team.

Through the end of the 2008 season, Ackermann had earned 76 World Cup medals, including 28 gold medals. Ackerman is also a three-time Olympian, earning two silver medals at the Salt Lake City games and another silver four years later in Turin.

Anssi Koivuranta - Finalnd

The 2009 nordic combined season marks the fifth World Cup season for Anssi Koivuranta. 2009 has also been his most successful of the first five years. The largest medal haul Koivuranta had prior to 2009 came in the 2006 season, where he earned four medals.

Koivuranta was part of the 2006 nordic combined team at the Turin Olympics, where he and his fellow Finns earned a bronze medal for their performance.

As of the start of February 2009, Koivuranta had already earned ten medals, including five gold medals at World Cup Gundersen events.

Bill Demong - United States

Bill Domong is a key member of the U.S. nordic combined team. Though he won a World Cup event in 2002, he would be unable to repeat that until 2007. In the 2008 season, Demong managed to finish on the podium six times, and 2009 has been a strong season as well.

With increased funding and effort put in by the U.S. team, the athletes have become contenders at the world level.

Demong won one of the Gundersen events at the World Cup held this year at the Whistler Olympic Park facility. In the second Gundersen in Whistler, Demong finished third.

Magnus Moan - Norway

Magnus Moan has landed on the podium every year since 2004 in World Cup competition. One of his best years was 2006, where ha won seven World Cup medals.

Moan entered two events at the Turin 2006 Olympics, his first and only Olympics. Moan left with a medal from each event - one silver and one bronze. Moan has also won a Gundersen event at the Whistler Olympic Park.

Do not be surprised if Moan starts well down the order after the jump portion of an event - his strength lies in the cross country skiing. Moan has been known to make up 20 positions and finish on the podium.

Jason Lamy Chappuis - France

Jason Lamy Chappuis scored his first win on the World Cup circuit in 2006, ultimately earning podium finishes at four events, including one gold medal. Since then, he has continued to podium each season.

Lamy Chappuis finished fourth in the sprint at the Turin 2006 Olympic Games and is eager to step onto the podium.

Lamy Chappuis has typically had his greatest success in sprint events, but has scored podiums in four other events.

Bjoern Kircheisen - Germany

A veteran of both the World Cup circuit and the Olympic Winter Games, Bjoern Kircheisen is enjoying his best career season in 2008-2009. Kircheisen has well over ten career wins at World Cup events and more than 30 podiums in over 130 World Cup starts.

Kircheisen has been to two Olympic Winter Games. A competitor in the sprint, team and gundersen events in both Salt Lake City and Turin, Kircheisen has failed to earn a medal at the Olympics, finishing as high as fifth in the gundersen in Salt Lake City. Coming from his strongest career World Cup season, Kircheisen has hopes to finally earn an Olympic medal in Vancouver.
