CTV Olympic Celebration: St. John’s

Concert ticket information:

  • All of the free concert tickets for the CTV Olympic Celebration concert at Mile One Centre on Friday, Feb. 26 featuring Joel Plaskett & The Emergency, along with headliner Sam Roberts Band, have been claimed
  • If you don’t have a ticket for the concert at Mile One, there are still plenty of great FREE activities for everyone to enjoy with NO TICKET REQUIRED!
  • A ticket is not required for any of the activities at St. John’s Convention Centre, and is open from 1pm onwards!  Remember to get there early as the Convention Centre will fill up fast!
  • Mile One Centre will also be open to the public – no ticket required – from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. NST.  During that time, individuals will be able to view CTV’s live Olympic Games coverage on the giant video screens as well as participate in the interactive sports activity zones.

*Beer & Wine Garden is accessible to those attendees who are legal drinking age only

Joel Plaskett & the Emergency

Since 2006, Plaskett has toured extensively both solo and with The Emergency, to sold-out clubs and theatres throughout Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and Australia. Ashtray Rock was nominated for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize, and earned Plaskett and his band all six of the 2008 "of the year" ECMAs. His most recent album, Three, is an eclectic blend of styles, ranging from the drum-machine rock ‘n' roll to deep-country vibe.

Q: Which Olympic sport rocks the most?
A: The bobsleigh rocks pretty hard

Q: Which Olympic sport would you like to compete in, and why?
A: I'd be in biathlon because I'd feel like a character in a James Bond movie!

Q: What is your favourite all-time Olympic Games memory?
A: Getting off the plane with Dave and Becky in the Halifax airport, and watching Canada beat the US in Hockey at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.

    Sam Roberts Band

    Sam Roberts, is a Juno Award winning Canadian rock singer-songwriter, whose 2001 debut release, The Inhuman Condition, became one of the bestselling independent releases in Quebec and Canadian music history. Roberts' most recent album, Love at the End of the World, was released in May 2008. It debuted at the number one position on the Canadian album chart, a first for Roberts.

    A: Biathlon - you get to shoot a gun!

    Q: What is your favourite all-time Olympic Games memory?
    A: Tom Hall's bronze medal performance in the C-1000 this past summer. Tom is the younger brother of our bass player James. Growing up in the neighbourhood with him, we've had the opportunity to see him train and prepare for this his whole life
