London 2012 Storylines:
American Kim Rhode will be aiming to win her fifth medal in five Olympic Games. No other American Olympian in an individual sport has won medals in five consecutive Games. She started as a double trap shooter, taking gold in Atlanta 1996, bronze in Sydney 2000 and gold in Athens 2004 before switching to skeet and winning silver in Beijing 2008. Most recently she claimed bronze at the 2011 World Championships.
Canada's Outlook:
Canada has won nine Olympic shooting medals, the most recent in Los Angeles 1984 when Linda Thom won gold in the inaugural women's 25m pistol event.
Cory Niefer was the first individual Canadian athlete to earn an Olympic quota place for London 2012 after finishing second in the 10m air rifle at the 2010 American Continental Championships. Niefer coached the rifle team in Beijing 2008 but will be making his Olympic competitive debut in 2012.
London 2012 would be the seventh Olympic appearance for Sue Nattrass since making her debut in Montreal 1976. Her best result was a sixth place finish in Athens 2004 in the women's trap. She finished 11th in that event in Beijing 2008 but fell to 47th at the 2010 World Championships.
Dorothy Ludwig was able to earn her Olympic spot in the 10m Air Pistol via her gold medal winning performance for Canada at the Pan Am Games. Ludwig continues her family's Olympic legacy as her father, Bill Hare, was a three-time Olympian in shooting.
