A serious back injury will prevent American halfpipe snowboarder Danny Davis from competing in the 2010 Games.
The 21-year-old was injured in a four-wheeling accident over the weekend and will undergo spine surgery on Monday at a Utah hospital, according to a message on his Facebook site.
Davis won the U.S. Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain in California following a run widely considered the best ever in the halfpipe discipline.
The management company representing Davis confirmed his injury in a posting on Twitter.
"Danny Davis's doctors remain optimistic and expect a full recovery," the Tweet stated.
Fans have been directed to Davis' Facebook fan page for further updates.
