During the third day of World Cup trials for Canada's best long track speed skaters, Denny Morrison was fastest in the men's 1500m races, but missed out on setting a new track record at the Richmond Oval.

Morrison slipped during the final lap of the event, costing precious time and likely a new track record at the facility that will host the long track speed skating events at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.

"It's happened to me two or three times before," said Morrison. "It's not fatigue from the race, just general fatigue from the training I've been doing. This is my fifth race weekend."

Morrison, Steven Elm and Lucas Makowski had pre-qualified in the men's 1500m, with Mathieu Giroux and Mykola Makowski landing the final two spots.

Kristina Groves was the fastest in the women's 1000m event, with Clara Hughes crossing the line first in the 3000m event.

Christine Nesbitt, Groves and Shannon Rempel were pre-qualified in the 1000m. The final two spots went to Brittany Schussler and Cindy Klassen.

Groves, Schussler and Hughes pre-qualified in the 3000m. Nesbitt and Klassen earned the final two spots.
