Canada 1's four-man sled piloted by Lyndon Rush of Humboldt, Sask., is in second place and 0.40 seconds off the pace after two of four runs at the Whistler Sliding Centre. Veteran Pierre Lueders and crew are in sixth.
Lueders' 2008-09 season got off to a rough start. The Canadian veteran had to go through two four-man crashes and a disqualification before finally getting back on track with back-to-back wins in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Pierre Lueders is the most decorated bobsleigh pilot in Canadian history. He has Olympic medals (gold and silver), is an eight-time world championship medallist and a six-time overall World Cup two-man champion.
Italy's Giuliano Razzoli takes the gold medal in the men's slalom.
Mathieu Giroux, Lucas Makowsky and Denny Morrison win a tight race with the US.
