Lysacek dethrones Plushenko to end dominance

The American ended a string of six continuous Russian or Soviet men's figure skating champions with a stirring performance Thursday at the Pacific Coliesum; Canada's Patrick Chan finished fifth.

This Lloydminster, Sask. native was the silver medallist of the 2009 Canadian Championships. A few weeks later, he skated to a sixth-place finish at the 2009 Four Continents Championships.

Chipeur started his rise on the Canadian senior team in 2005 with an 11th-place finish at the national championships. Now a national silver medallist, he is working to qualify for his first Olympic competition.
