Austrian spoils German sweep

Germany came close to a third straight Olympic podium sweep in women's luge, but an Austrian spoiled the party, winning the silver medal. Regan Lauscher was the top Canadian, in 15th.

Gough enjoyed the best season of her career so far in 2008-09. After a slow start, Gough recorded top-10 finishes in six of the remaining seven World Cup races.

Career highlights »

The Calgary, Alta. native earned Canada's best-ever world championship luge finish with a fourth-place finish at the 2009 FIL World Championships in Lake Placid, USA. Her best career World Cup result is sixth.

Alex Gough joined the Canadian national luge squad in 2003. Her rise has been almost astonishing. In her first world championship competition in 2005, she finished 30th. Now, going into 2010, she's a potential medal threat.
