Austria's Reinfried Herbst won the alpine skiing World Cup slalom in Levi, Finland in a combined time of one minute, 49.79 seconds. Herbst was fourth fastest on the first run, but made up time over the start of the second run.
"I knew that I had to push more on the flat bit of the upper section in the second to make something happen. I really attacked there and that set me up very well for my entry into the final stretch," said Herbst.
"I know when I'm at 100 percent and I felt that I was at 100 percent," added Herbst. "It's the first time that I've had a good result in the first race. It's a nice feeling."
Ivica Kostelic of Croatia finished second, with a time of 1:50.07. 2009 World Cup slalom champion, France's Jean-Baptiste Grange earned the bronze medal with a time of 1:50.32.
Michael Janyk was the top Canadian finisher, finishing 14th overall, in 1:51.46. Janyk finished 20th on the first run, but had the 11th fastest time on the second run, moving him up the results.
Canada's Trevor White and Julien Cousineau finished 22 and 24th respectively.
American Bode Miller did not finish his second run, ending the event with a DNF.
