
Pilot Kaillie Humphries and brakeman Heather Moyse led a one-two Canadian punch at a bobsleigh World Cup event in Altenberg, Germany on Saturday, taking gold in a time of one minute, 53.60 seconds.
Calgary's Helen Upperton and Jenny Ciochetti of Edmonton finished second, clocking a time of 1:54.03.
Humphries, of Calgary, and Moyse, of Summerside, PEI, broke their second track record in as many weeks, posting a time of 56.79 s in their first run.
It's a big improvement for Canada following last week's world cup event, where Humphries and Moyse finished 5th, and Upperton and Ciochetti were 7th.
Third place went to Americans Shauna Rohbock and Michelle Rzepka in 1:54.11.
Germany's Sandra Kiriasis, 2006 Olympic champion and winner of the last World Cup, finished fourth in 1:54.12, just 0.01 seconds off the podium. The fourth-place finish is her worst result this season.
Teammate Cathleen Martini, who has dominated the World Cup with three victories, was forced to withdraw due to a calf injury, but is expected back for the next event on the World Cup circuit.
On the men's side, Germany finished 1-2, with Andre Lange and Kevin Kuske winning gold in a time of 1:49.81. Thomas Florschuetz and Marc Kuehne took silver, clocking 1:50.47 over two runs.
Lyndon Rush of Humboldt, Sask., and Calgary's Lascelles Brown finished fifth with a time of 1:51.00.
Italy's Giuliano Razzoli takes the gold medal in the men's slalom.
Mathieu Giroux, Lucas Makowsky and Denny Morrison win a tight race with the US.
