Armin Zöggeler was golden in the final luge World Cup race of the season in Cesana, Italy, on Saturday.
The Italian luger posted a combined time of one minute, 43.115 seconds to edge Germans Felix Loch (1:43.434) and Johannes Ludwig (1:43.493) for gold.
Sam Edney was Canada's top competitor, finishing seventh in 1:43.967. Jeff Christie finished 20th.
Zöggeler's win on Saturday was his fourth in eight races this season - good enough to mark the four-time Olympic medallist as overall champion by a whopping 171 points. This was Zöggeler's ninth time winning the World Cup title.
In Whistler, Zöggeler will be trying for his third-straight Olympic gold medal. He is already one of only two men to repeat as Olympic champion in men's luge.
Edney was also Canada's top overall finish in 15th, despite having missed a race in Lillehammer last year.
In the doubles event on Saturday, Tobias Wendl and Tobias Artl of Germany won gold in 1:32.982 while compatriots Andre Florschütz and Torsten Wustlitch managed to hang on to their first-place overall standing with a sixth-place finish.
Germany's Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch took bronze in Cesana to finish second overall, just 22 points back from their compatriots, while Italians Christian Oberstolz and Patrick Gruber earned silver on Saturday (1:32.991) to finish third overall.
Canada's Chris and Mike Moffat did not race in Cesana and also missed a World Cup event in Lillehammer earlier this season but still managed a 15th-overall finish.
Italy's Giuliano Razzoli takes the gold medal in the men's slalom.
Mathieu Giroux, Lucas Makowsky and Denny Morrison win a tight race with the US.
