Gough 4th in luge World Cup finale

Luge racer Alex Gough of Calgary, Alta., matched her best career World Cup result with a fourth-place finish in Cesana, Italy on Sunday.

In the final World Cup race of the season, Gough posted a time of one minute, 34.116 seconds to finish just off the podium. She was the only Canadian competing in the women's race.

Germany picked up the top-two podium positions with Natalie Geisenberger taking gold in 1:33.811 seconds and Tatjana Hüfner picking up silver in 1:33.873.

Reigning world champion Erin Hamlin, of the United States, earned bronze in 1:33.925. seconds.

Gough, 22, also finished fourth in Igls, Austria, earlier this season.

In the overall World Cup rankings for the season, Germany swept the top-three positions. Huefner took the Crystal Globe while Geisenberger and Anke Wischnewski finished second and third, respectively.

Gough was Canada's top overall finisher in seventh. Regan Lauscher was 15th while Meaghan Simister was 20th.
