SEEFELD, Austria - Eric Frenzel of Germany won a nordic combined World Cup event Saturday for his second career gold medal - two years after winning in his native Klingenthal.

Frenzel led after the ski jump and held off his rivals to finish the 10-kilometre cross-country race in 26 minutes 23.1 seconds.

Austria's Mario Stecher, who won the event last year, was 32.6 seconds back in second. Akito Watabe of Japan took third, 43.7 behind Frenzel

Jason Lamy Chappuis of France maintained a massive lead in the World Cup standings, 340 points clear of Austria's Felix Gottwald with four events left. Frenzel is third with 581.

Lamy Chappuis and several other top medal contenders for the Vancouver Olympics skipped the event.
